I want a cozy bedroom! How would you design our primary bedroom?
– Michelle
First and foremost, your bedroom and your style is so cute! I love your choice of colors and the pattern mixing on the bedding is perfection! Since you seem to love color and patterns, I had a little fun with your bedroom design plan and played around with pattern drenching. Here’s how I would design your primary bedroom…
The term “pattern drenching” means exactly what you would imagine, a room plastered with patterns from floor to ceiling. I love pattern drenching for a variety of reasons, but primarily because it’s unexpected and it forces you to exercise your ability to find the right combinations of scale, shapes, and motifs.
With that said, you mentioned you want a cozy bedroom so I started my design plan with a moody floral wallpaper. It’s rich and warm and not too feminine, delicate or playful. It features green, tan, and maroon which gives us plenty of color palette options to work with.
The rule of thumb with pattern mixing is to pair organic patterns (floral, scenic, whimsical, etc) with geometric patterns (stripes, plaid, etc). So I would choose this skirted check bed frame for your bedroom. I love the scale of the pattern against the wallpaper and the skirted base makes it feel cozier. I also love the idea of introducing pale blue to the room so I found this tufted wool rug with the most beautiful delicate ivory pattern.
I think my favorite find of all is this Americana armoire from Wayfair. It’s the most beautiful piece of furniture I think I’ve ever seen! This is an investment piece that you’ll keep for a lifetime and the functionality of it with the built in mirror, shelving, and drawers makes it so practical for small bedrooms.
A pair of wood nightstands with drawers add more beautiful storage and a skirted floral chair with a marble side table in the corner of the room would introduce another form of pattern. To provide a visual break from all the pattern, these velvet taupe curtains would look stunning against the floral wallpaper.
While I’m wildly impressed with the cleanliness of your closet, I would look into installing bifold doors to tuck the clothes away. We installed bifold doors that look like double doors on our closet and it’s one of my favorite DIY’s we’ve ever done!
From there, you can decorate the room with artwork and pillows. If you have the budget to do a little electrical work, I love the idea of mounting this brass sconce on the wall. If wiring the light isn’t an option, this mirrored candle sconce is a beautiful alternative or this hammered black candle sconce that I’ve been eyeing for so long is a great pick too!
With all of these elements in one space, you’ll be melting into the coziness of the room. I hope this gives you all the motivation and clarity you wanted to tackle your cozy bedroom makeover! Good luck!
