Our Maine Cape has given us something we’ve never had before – privacy and shaded spots to sit. Listen, I loved our Nebraska house dearly, but having a house that’s nestled in the trees is a dream come true for us. We both work from home and we find ourselves sitting outside nearly all day, migrating from a shady spot to a sunny spot.
Our new back yard is a work in progress and quite frankly, it will take years to get it to where we want it to be. But one thing that Chris has advocated for since we got the house was creating a lot of seating zones throughout our property. He envisions an old wooden bench on the trail he’s currently creating, a bistro table and chairs (I love these chairs) under a tall oak tree, a circle of 4 club chairs on a flagstone patio, and a set of Adirondack chairs circling a stone fire pit.
Whether it’s for us or for guests, creating multiple seating spots and landing zones will (I hope) invite us to utilize ALL of our forested property…not just the grassy area behind our house.
Acquiring all this seating may take time…as you know I try to practice slow design so that I don’t rush into any purchases that I’ll later regret. But for starters, I’m using what we have. We found an antique wood bench that’s already perfectly distressed and it will most likely end up on a trail in our back yard. We’ve also had this set of cushioned club chairs from Wayfair for nearly 4 years and they have held up incredibly well! The cushions have not lost they’re shape and despite not cleaning them in 4 years, they’re still pearly white after an appointment with my power washer!
Soon I think I’ll hunt down a set of black Adirondack chairs for the stone fire pit we plan to build – these caught my eye. Or maybe I’ll switch it up and use wood chairs instead?
Wayfair has a great selection of outdoor seating ranging from wood benches to cushioned club chairs. If you also want to create more seating spots for your outdoor spaces, here are a few outdoor chairs I love-
