THE DO'S & DON'TS OF CURTAIN PLACEMENT
There are certain rules and guidelines when it comes to hanging curtains. If you follow the guidelines correctly, you'll create a stunning illusion of taller ceilings and wider windows.
Don't position your curtain rod directly above the window.
Place your curtain rod approximately 4-6" above the window frame or go all the way to your ceiling for a dramatic look! This will give the illusion of taller ceilings.
Don't use a narrow rod that forces your curtains to cover up some of the window.
Get a rod wide enough that when the curtains are open they cover just the edge of your window frame. Aim to get a rod that is 8-12" wider than your window. This will bring in more natural light and create the illusion of a wider window.
Don't get curtains that are too short.
Get curtains that reach the floor.
