I’d like to formally introduce you to our passthrough…the part of our home that I never show you cause she nasty! 🙂 This 5’ x 5’ walkway connects our house to our garage and housed 4 (FOUR!) doors. I have so many ideas for the interior of this passthrough including taking out the dividing wall to open it up, tiling the floors, adding some sort of wall covering, and…and…and I’m getting ahead of myself!
Because we’re residing our house soon, we need to focus on just the projects that affect the exterior. With that being said, we don’t want 4 doors in the walkway. We don’t use 2 of them and the practicality of a door on every wall just wasn’t working for us.
We never use the door leading to our front yard and visually speaking it just makes more sense as a window. Of course no project is as easy as you think it will be…
Once Chris took out the door he noticed that some wood was rotting and several 2×4’s weren’t providing the structural support they were supposed to. So out came the existing wall and Chris built an all new wall! A minor setback but we feel much better knowing it’s all up to code now.
I can’t even with the window though! It adds so much natural light to the interior and I feel confident that we can make this window and walkway look picturesque!
FRONT PASSTHROUGH CURRENTLY
We also decided to wall off the door leading to our backyard because we already have another back door elsewhere. With a blank wall we now have the option to add hooks on the inside for coats or maybe (maaaybe) a small closet. But again, the interior projects will have to wait for the time being.
But we’re not done yet! Picture this… dark board and batten siding with weathered gray cedar shakes on the passthrough walls! We’ll add some landscaping, mulch, plants and I’m getting SO antsy to rip off the rest of the siding now! Stay tuned…I’ll have a lot of updates coming your way soon!
