So you bought a beautiful wood cutting board, some spoons, and a few wood bowls for your kitchen! But now they look weathered and the wood is dry! Yep, been there! Wood kitchen accessories are beautiful but they do require some special care.
Any wooden accessories that you use with food should be cared for as such:
-
Hand wash with dish soap – Never ever put wood in the dishwasher. This will dry them out and ultimately cause the wood to crack and splinter. Hand washing is a must!
-
Do not soak in water – Once again this will cause damage to the wood, especially if there’s any glue holding the wood together. We’ve had to say farewell to several cutting boards because we let them sit under water in the sink and the wood began to split.
-
Air dry completely after washing – Germs love to grow in moist areas so be sure to let your wood utensils, cutting boards, and bowls dry out completely before storing them away.
-
Wipe on food grade mineral oil once a month or when the wood appears dry – This will bring your wood back to life! Just be sure to use food safe mineral oil like this one so that it’s safe to use in the kitchen!
That’s not too hard right? Now let’s look at some of my current favorite wood accessories!
Excellent points explained here.Yes you are right, Hand wash wooden utensils with hot water and mild dish soap. Washing wooden utensils and cutting boards in the dishwasher is a bad idea.
