Until recently, I was notorious for washing my hair every day. I swear my hair got greasy within 12 hours of showering and dry shampoo just didn’t cut it. Then in January I cut and colored my hair and in an effort to prolong the life of my colored hair, I needed to wash my hair less often. Long story short, I can now go 3-4 days without washing it and my hair hasn’t seen this much volume since I sported a perm in elementary school.
My new hair routine – I wash my hair at night and only put conditioner on the ends of my hair – never on the roots. Since my roots are prone to excess oil, I think a lack of conditioner on my roots has helped dry them out a bit. I sleep with wet hair because I surprisingly get the most volume in the morning when it dries on my pillow. I understand this is not an option for my frizzy hair friends. 🙂
The next morning I curl my hair with this curling wand and I style it as usual for the day. (Here’s a quick video showing how I curl my hair.) Then for the night I put my hair up in a super loose bun with a scrunchie. My hair gets far less greasy overnight and it actually holds my curl if I put my hair up in a loose bun vs leaving it down.
The next morning (day 2 of not washing it) I use this dry shampoo on my roots or this brown tinted dry shampoo if my roots are starting to look powdery. I brush through my hair to spread out any natural oils that may have accumulated overnight and the volume on day 2 is amazing!!
My hair never used to hold a curl after the first day let alone after brushing it, but with my new routine of dry shampoo and a loose bun at night, my hair will consistently stay wavy for 3+ days.
Usually after 3-4 days of this, I give my hair a fresh wash and continue on with the routine.
I will say, it took about a month to “train” my hair not to get greasy. But the longer I follow this new method, the longer it takes for my my natural oils to build up. Yay!
Other notable things –
Chris made these healthy chocolate peanut butter energy balls and I’m literally confused how the word “healthy” can legally be associated with this recipe. They taste SO. DANG. GOOD! And I’m not one to enjoy healthy food so this testimonial really speaks volumes! 🙂
I recently stumbled upon an art shop called Foggyst Prints on Etsy and was blown away! They have some of the most beautiful watercolor paintings and line drawings that I have ever seen at prices that are super reasonable.
I get asked frequently who designed my website and what platform I use. I use Squarespace and I designed it myself. My site started out fairly simple but as I become more comfortable with coding, I’m adding more features as I go. If you’re interesting in customizing your own Squarespace website, I use Ghost Pluggins frequently for free css and html coding that creates custom effects on Squarespace websites!
If you’re bored, open Google and type in the word “askew” (or click this link). Kinda cool right? Now open Google and type “The Wizard of Oz” (or click this link). Then click on the red shoes and be amazed! 🙂
Happy weekend everyone! I hope it’s a relaxing one for you!
