I love a good wall sconce. Whether they’re used to illuminate a room or simply to create a mood, wall sconces are a necessary element in a well-designed lighting scheme. Unfortunately, they’re also one of the most underutilized sources of light. While it’s best to plan for sconces during a home renovation, rentals and homes that don’t undergo a remodel are not conducive to hardwired sconces. Enter: plug-in wall sconces. There is an abundance of plug-in wall sconces that have a youthful, dorm-like appearance, but today I’m advocating for elevated, grown-up alternatives.

TRY THIS HACK:
A plug-in wall sconce looks best when the cord is hidden. Some sconces come with a matching cord cover that conceals the cord against the wall, but most don’t. For sconces that don’t come with a cord cover, Room For Tuesday shared a genius hack on how she made her own covers using this paintable cord cover kit. As seen below –

I have to say, that I am not a fan of cord covers. Instead, I hire an electrician and have them hardwire the sconces for me. It took me forever to find the right ones, for our bedroom, but they were corded. I made sure that the switch was on the actual fixture, as I wanted to be able to turn the light on/off from bed.
