Thank goodness we live in a time where Facebook Marketplace finds and used furniture no longer have a negative connotation. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. We’re celebrating affordable finds and “scores of the century.” And to further prove this point, I found 5 homeowners that each utilized Facebook Marketplace to furnish their homes. Care to guess what the Facebook Marketplace finds are before I tell you? I bet you can’t!
Less is not more. That’s the mantra of maximalist Paige Kontrafouris as she fills her home with Facebook Marketplace treasures. Even in her kitchen, a sense of history is infused into the bones of the room through secondhand pieces. “I found [the french doors] on Facebook Marketplace and covered the bottom portion with a thin wood panel and added trim for detail.” The hardware is a clever combination of salvaged hardware from previous projects. As for the chandeliers and textiles, those are Facebook Marketplace finds too. “My husband doesn’t need to worry about me bringing home stray animals, but he does have to worry about what stray piece of furniture I am bringing home.”
Look beyond what you see. That’s the moral of the story with this Facebook Marketplace find. Shortly after having a child, Alisa set out to rework her home office with a goal of sourcing at least half of the pieces secondhand. The outcome: a stunning “Grandmillennial” office (coined by Alisa herself) and 10 secondhand scores with the most notable being this English Roll Arm chair (purchased for $150) and this foot stool (a $60 find). While the original fabric didn’t match her vision, she knew that having it reupholstered would make all the difference. And as a result of new fabric, you’d never know they came from Facebook marketplace!
Megan was thrilled to score a set of 6 Windsor dining chairs for $90 on Facebook Marketplace. But there was one caveat, she felt that they looked a little too orange and a little too new for her Saltbox home. Aware of the potential backlash it would stir up, Megan grabbed a quart of black paint and brushed a coat on her Windsor chairs. Using Early American antiques as a guide, Megan reproduced the look of antique Windsor chairs with a worn black finish and the result is nothing short of spectacular. Watch the transformation here!
$12,000. That’s about how much Amira saved in her bathroom renovation by sourcing pieces from Facebook Marketplace. From the tub and tiles to the vanity and sink, this bathroom beautifully illustrates that sourcing secondhand doesn’t sacrifice style. The tub was acquired after the previous owner discovered it wouldn’t fit in their space. The Minton Hollins tile that adorns the walls retails for $10 per piece, but Amira found untouched boxes on Facebook Marketplace for just $1 per tile. And perhaps the biggest conversation piece in the room is the floral motif sink that previously belonged to King Abdul Halim of Kedah – the Facebook Marketplace find of the century.
Alisa was ready to lighten the mood of her primary bedroom when her friend sent her a listing on Facebook Marketplace for a Bowood headboard, located only 30 minutes from her house. Ironically, she had just mentioned earlier that week that she wanted to incorporate Bowood somewhere in her house and it felt like fate! This Facebook Marketplace find inspired the rest of her bedroom makeover with coordinating walls painted Antique Jade by Benjamin Moore, a Turkish Persian Rug from Etsy, and fresh bedding from Schwietzer Linen.
Dana has sourced nearly everything secondhand for their home and the bedroom her two daughters share, cleverly called the Sister Suite, is no exception. The girls’ room design was inspired by a pair of matching antique beds Dana found on Facebook Marketplace for much less than they were worth. The additional design elements of the room, such as the wallpaper and the color palette, all tie back to the beds. The subtle hints of orange in the wallpaper tie into the orange tones on the wood beds and “the floral and leaf motifs in the wallpaper are nearly identical to the design in the bed inlay.”
An antique pine table this good is worth the 3 hour drive Dana took to pick it up. But the real deal was the set of 4 wicker chairs Dana also found on Facebook Marketplace for only $25. The “new” dining set paired with the yellow stripe Farrow & Ball wallpaper is what design enthusiasts call a cheerful delight.
