Ok so the truth is that half of the plants in my house are real and half of them are fake. I’ll always prefer real plants but we have a few rooms in our house that just don’t get enough sunlight to keep them alive. So after 3 years of killing innocent plants, I finally gave into buying a few faux plants.
A bunch of you have been asking where you can find realistic faux plants online; so I pulled together all the fake plants I own and made of a list of my favorites that look and feel convincingly real!
Oh the ever so popular fiddle leaf fig! Last year this trend exploded and nearly all of America had a fiddle leaf fig in their home. Unfortunately they can be a struggle to keep alive so a faux plant may be a good option for you. I purchased my faux fiddle leaf fig from Hobby Lobby and was really impressed. The leaves show color variation and veins but I’m mostly impressed with the branches! The stems and trunk of the tree look so incredibly real even up close!
I LOVE these plants! I have a real one and a fake one in our house right now! They don’t require a lot of maintenance but if you don’t think you can keep a real one alive, this fake plant from Nearly Natural looks and feels incredibly real! It comes with a non decorative pot so I put it in this more stylish white pot and “planted” it in real soil so that it looks even more real. (Click here to see the trick I use to “plant” faux greenery) Chris touched the leaves and still had to ask if it was real so I’d say it passes the test!
I wanted so badly to put a bird of paradise palm tree in our podcast studio but it gets very little sunlight throughout the day so I searched the internet high and low for a realistic fake option. I found it! This 5’ palm tree comes wrapped in a box with the leaves all bunched together but once you fluff the leaves and put it in a decorative pot, the plant comes to life!
I recently did my research to figure out how to plant real succulents correctly and (more importantly) how to keep them alive. If you’d like to see what I learned you can check that out here. If you’d rather get fake ones, you need to go to Hobby Lobby! I get all my fake succulents from Hobby Lobby and they look incredible!
Sometimes you need to add a pop of color and if you don’t have access to real stems, you may need a few fake ones. Again, Hobby Lobby is where it’s at! Most of my stems come from there and they often offer 50% off floral stems so you should keep an eye out for those sales! The Monstera Leaf from Hobby Lobby is super realistic! Plus the stem bends easily so you can create the shape you want. The Eucalyptus Stem from Hobby Lobby actually comes in a bundle so I like to separate and shape the stems individually.
And there you have it – my favorite faux plants that look pretty dang real! If you want to take it a step further, I’ve got a little trick that I use to make faux plants look even more real! The people have spoken and they say this trick is genius! Check out my secret here.
