Stone tile has been and continues to be a timeless material. Its natural qualities bode well for homes in need of historic charm and personality. But if you’ve ever been quoted stone tile for a project, you are painfully aware of its steep expense. If the budget allows, I will (usually) always recommend a natural stone. But when the budget is tight or the maintenance of natural stone is not preferred, these are my 4 favorite natural stone tile lookalikes that cost significantly less.
I used this porcelain tile in our Nebraska bathroom and the color variation closely resembles that of what you would see on natural stone. The edges are imperfect and there’s plenty of variation from tile to tile. Available in two sizes and priced at only $7.79 per sq ft.
This was my backup choice for our Nebraska bathroom and it’s probably the most believable natural stone lookalike tile on the market. It’s made of porcelain with tumbled edges and it’s extremely durable. Available in a variety of colors and sizes and prices start at just $7.88 per sq ft.
I’ve seen this porcelain tile everywhere and it makes me do a double take every time I see it. It’s designed to look like whitewashed brick featuring tumbled edges with a matte finish. It’s suitable for indoor, outdoor, residential, and commercial use and it’s also the most affordable tile of the bunch priced at just $6.53 per sq ft.
This is the same tile as the first one, just in a different colorway. If you want a darker tile, this Montana tile features rich colors ranging from deep blue to light gray. Suitable for floors, walls, showers, and pools. Also available in a 2″x10″ brick shape that’s perfect for a herringbone pattern. Priced at only $7.79 per sq ft.
There are a lot of tiles on the market that claim to be natural stone lookalikes, but few live up to the high standards of designers. These 4 porcelain tiles are tried and true favorites among homeowners and designers as a natural stone alternative. My best tip: order a few samples of each tile as every one is intentionally made with variation.
Happy tile shopping!
