Well if you’ve been around for a minute you know we started remodeling our bedroom back in April and it has yet to be “revealed”. Yes it’s still a work in progress and I think I’ll chat about why that is later this week. But while I’m trying to wrap up my project, I wanted to give you some inspiration for yours! Let’s do a virtual fall bedroom makeover!
Does the layout and wall treatment of this room look familiar? I’m using our own bedroom layout as a backdrop for this bedroom refresh, but no matter what your layout or window placement is, all the ideas I’m sharing today can be tweaked and adjusted to work for your space!
Now if you’re starting from scratch and wanting to copy this look exactly, I’d recommend starting with vertical nickel gap planks painted in the color of your choice. It just adds a level of character and charm that I grow more fond of every day. My tip: If you’re going to do it, continue the planks throughout the entire room for a fully finished look. But if you’re not up for that big of a project, this refresh will look just as good with drywall.
Let’s start with the foundational pieces –
In any room makeover, I like to start with the foundational pieces of the room and work my way to the smaller details. These are the pieces that make the biggest impact and grab our attention the most. If you’re refreshing your bedroom in phases or looking to update a few of your existing pieces, the rug, headboard, and nightstands are great places to start. I love the color palette of this gingham check rug from Walmart and it serves as a great color guide for the rest of the room. It’s also made of wool so you know it’ll last a long time!
The headboard and nightstands are the two other pieces of a bedroom that I pick out first. If there’s plenty of space on either side or the bed (or if you need extra storage) I love the look of 3 drawer dressers opposed to traditional nightstands. And I just can’t get over the neutral wood tone paired with the putty walls and the casual yet classy tufted headboard.
Now let’s fill it in –
A fall refresh wouldn’t be complete without a little plaid and when I saw these plaid curtain panels in Walmart Home’s new fall line, they screamed focal point!!
Now you can fill in the room with bedding (a white comforter goes with everything), throw pillows (the floral pattern is a nice contrast from the grid curtains), and a simple bench at the foot of the bed if space allows.
And lastly, we can add the finishing touches –
Of course my favorite part of any refresh is shuzhing up the space with intentional pieces. A couple throw blankets at the foot of the bed is both decorative and useful on chilly nights. I love a good woven basket in the bedroom whether it’s used to store blankets, hold dirty laundry, or just to look pretty in the corner. And the last touch to any room – art. Walmart carries several weathered frames for canvas art (in a bunch of different colors too!) and I thought this would be the perfect frame for above the bed. Just add your favorite canvas art or pick from a few of mine.
Warm, subtle, lots of textures and not a single pumpkin or Fall sign…that’s how I like to decorate for the season! 😉
Everything you see in today’s makeover is from Walmart’s new fall line. They’ve been updating their home collection this year and it shows! Sources for everything in today’s refresh is linked here –
