I’ve been trying to keep you all up to date on our bedroom exterior project over on Instagram, but for the last 3 weeks I’ve been quiet about it. The truth is, there was nothing to update you on! We ordered our cedar shingles back in October and while we wait for them to arrive, we’ve been prepping our exterior for the big install. We tore off the existing siding, put up Tyvek, installed a groundbreaker, painted the gutters, and pre-made our window trim so that when the cedar shingles arrive, we’re ready to go!
We were given a 6 week lead time for the cedar shingles and like most construction projects these days, materials were backordered. We’re now at 9 weeks but we just got word that our shingles are supposed to ship from the mill this week. IF (and that’s a questionable if) everything goes as planned, we might have our siding in 2 weeks and IF that happens, we will start installing before Christmas!! The anticipation has me checking my email for updates daily!
While we wait, I made a rough rendering of what our bedroom siding plans are and seeing this has me beyond excited for the real thing! I knew last year when we installed board and batten siding on the rest of our house that the back needed contrast…a change of material so it didn’t feel like one continuous blob of green. And OMG the cedar shingles will be the perfect addition to our cabin inspired exterior.
It’s funny, when the siding was all the same throughout, this flat roof room felt disconnected from the rest of the house…like it was an afterthought. But with contrasting siding in a different material, suddenly it feels connected and charming…like it was meant to be all along. I just find it fascinating that intentionally making it different from the rest of the house makes it feel connected.
I’m confused with your choice of vacuum. I thought the video was showing how the Bissell was just as good as the Dyson but cheaper.
The Bissell did well, but the Dyson definitely did better.
