Three weeks ago Chris accepted a new ‘work from home’ job which means that we are now both working from home! (Yay!!) Our house is small (only 2 bedrooms) so we had to move everything out of our nearly finished guest room and redesign the space to be a functional home office for both of us.
Chris started this past Monday so we had to put together a few initial necessities including a desk, two office chairs, and a rug. But the additional accessories like artwork, lighting, and decor have yet to be purchased.
So here is our inspiration and my game plan for the space –
We opted to build our own desk. We needed something pretty specific (exactly 4′ wide x 7′ long and space for two filing cabinets underneath) so we realized it was easiest and cheapest to just build our own. I also wanted to hide the cabinets/cords that are sure to look cluttered under our desk so I decided on a waterfall edge.
Although I love the look of a wood desk, we already had a lot of brown tones happening in this room so I decided to paint the desk white. I’m also planning on adding wainscoting in this room (and potentially painting it olive green?) to add contrast between the white desk and the white walls. This photo is my inspiration for the wainscoting and this olive green wall is what got me excited to paint the wainscoting.
I love the look of rich brown leather in contrast with black and white, so I was determined to find leather office chairs. I found a pair that are even more beautiful in person!
In order to add a little more depth to the space, Chris found a beautiful heathered gray/black flatweave rug which we are obsessed with! The color variation is perfect for our space! We’re keeping our existing curtains, but to complete the space we’ll add in some abstract artwork, a modern lamp, and maybe even a floor plant if space allows.
I can’t wait to show you the finished look! (UPDATE: The office is finished and it’s dope…check it out here!)
