A quintessential English country bedroom always consists of 4 things: an abundance of colors, a slew of patterns, an element of wear, and a 3-drawer chest. But it takes more than just these four elements to recreate the coveted look. So today I’m sharing my own take on an English countryside bedroom. Filled with colorful textiles, brass finishes, and floral motifs. Take a closer look at the design and shop this look below.
Whether wood or iron, a four-poster bed frame is a staple of English country bedrooms. If you are so lucky to find one at an antique store, you have achieved the ultimate goal. But such a find is few and far between. Which is why I was so delighted to find this iron bed frame with brass finials and a tufted pillow back. The black iron frame grounds the space wonderfully.
As mentioned, no English country bedroom is complete without an English pine chest of drawers. I like to use 3-drawer dressers in place of nightstands when space permits. In my experience, 3 drawer chests are much cheaper and easier to come by antique than they are new. They’re almost always better quality too. I would start your search at antique shops. If you don’t have any luck, the dressers in my rendering are from Hearth & Hand. (Sorry, they just sold out this week. Sign up for the restock alert!) Alternatively, consider this curved silhouette dresser with a marble top.
The Decor & The Window Treatments
This is where you get to have fun! The ruffle valance curtains and ruffle ivory comforter add another layer of femininity. The brass sconces provide perfect bedside light and can either be hardwired or plugged in! A collection of frames with family photos on one dresser balances out the stack of books and floral arrangement on the other. And last, but not least, a pair of mismatched gold frames with vintage artwork hung above the bed put the final touch on this bedroom.
