Do you both do Nadine Stay full time?
Short Answer: Yes & No
Long Answer: I (Danica) have been doing Nadine Stay full time since 2014. Chris works full time as a senior project manager elsewhere.
What do you not see eye to eye on in business and personal life?
Short Answer: In business we have different methods and priorities. In our personal life, Chris tends to be more care-free and optimistic while I have a more realistic/pessimistic point of view.
Long Answer: When it comes to business, Chris really values one on one relationships with people and networking. If he starts a business, he’s instantly thinking of people that he can speak to and connect with. I, on the other hand, value an online presence through branding, design, providing valuable content on my website, and maintaining a social presence.
What do you do when you lose motivation and inspiration?
Short Answer: I take a break.
Long Answer: I (Danica) don’t typically lose motivation often because I genuinely love what I do! But when I do lose motivation, it’s often because I’m working myself too hard and running out of steam. In that case, I usually try to give myself a day or two off guilt-free to recharge. If I lose inspiration, that’s a little harder to deal with. If possible, I try to step back from the situation/project I’m working on and think it through until an idea sparks. Sometimes the worst thing I can do (when I lose inspiration) is to search for it…so a break is usually best.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Short Answer: Driving away from the reception.
Long Answer: We both agree that the most memorable moment from our wedding was when we got in our car and drove away from the wedding reception. It was just the two of us and it was the most quiet it had been all day. The whole wedding day was a blast but it was also a blur and for some reason it hit us both while we were in the car that we were married!
What is the most challenging thing about owning your own business?
Short Answer: It can feel overwhelming when you’re first starting out.
Long Answer: I (Danica) have found that creating a business on your own can be a really lonely thing when you’re first starting out. You have to figure out how to do everything yourself from legally forming your business to branding, marketing, and content creation. It can be a daunting and overwhelming feeling unless you have people who are willing to help you.
Also, if your business is your passion, it can be difficult to step away from the business and mentally end your work day. It’s super difficult to put work down and be present in the moment.
What is the best part about owning your own business?
Short Answer: It provides opportunities for other people and it’s incredibly empowering!
Long Answer: Chris – One of my favorite things about owning your own business is that you can provide opportunities for other people. Whether that be providing jobs, a livelihood, or helping someone pursue their passion, you have the power to impact other people’s lives.
Danica – it’s a super empowering feeling to create your own successful business from the ground up. You realize how capable you are of doing big things.
What is your next home renovation project?
Short Answer: Probably the bathroom.
Long Answer: Honestly, we’ve been taking a little break from major home renovations for quite a while now, but next up will probably be the bathroom or the basement. We have dreams of tackling the exterior of our home but we have an addition and a new roof line to do before we can paint the exterior or start the landscaping.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
Short Answer: We both have unfortunate depantsing stories.
Long Answer: Danica – I would say I was in junior high at the time. I was at church youth group for the evening and we were playing games most of the night. After a few hours I went home and I got a ride with my cousins…it was 2 guys, a girl, and myself. When I got home I talked to my parents for a moment and when I turned to go to bed my dad stopped me. He told me to look in the mirror and that’s when I noticed that my pants were ripped from the top of my butt to the back of my knee!! It was probably a 16 inch rip in the back of my jeans and as you can imagine, you could see all of my butt! I was mortified and when I went to school the next day, I asked my cousin if she saw that my pants were ripped. To which she replied, “Ya…..I noticed that.” So thanks to my church youth group for letting me go hours with ripped pants and not saying a word! 😉
Chris – I transferred to a new college halfway through the year and it was my first day at my new (very small) college. Everyone knew each other so it was obvious that I was new. I’m not a major planner, so of course I showed up late to my first class. All the seats were taken except for the front row so I sat in the front. When class was almost over, I decided that I was going to book it out of class so I wouldn’t be late for my next class. So when the bell rang, I quickly stood up! But when I stood up, my shorts and boxers didn’t come up with me! You see, I had a lanyard hanging out of my pocket and when I stood up, the lanyard got caught on the chair and forced my shorts (and boxers) to fall to my knees. I froze and unfortunately I can’t tell you how long I stood there without any pants on. So ya…great first day of college for me!
