We’re finally getting to a place where I can think about decorating and furnishing our bedroom. The goal is to paint the room by this weekend so we’re full steam ahead with the little projects like caulking the trim, finishing the floors, and installing the closet door.
Normally I’d paint the whole room my go-to white (Nautica by Nautica at Home Paint) but I want to put one foot outside my comfort and look at creamy whites or even beiges. I’ve got a stack of color samples sitting on my desk that I need to flip through, but as I learned from a few designer friends, it’s best to pick a rug before you pick a paint color. I bought a beautiful rug a couple weeks back and the colors in the rug will guide the color palette for the room.
I’d love to pull some of the reds/oranges from the rug and duplicate that in a few pieces of art. I’d also like to incorporate some moody blue/green artwork and pair that with simple, minimal pieces. And maybe for a change of scenery, I’ll throw in a show stopping antique mirror.
I’ve been art shopping all week and the pieces below have stuck out to me. All are digital downloads which I love because I have the option to pick from a variety of sizes after I purchase the art. I have some textured paper on the way so I can attempt to print my own, but if that fails, FedEx is my favorite place to get artwork printed. (Read more about where & on what paper I print artwork here.)
#2 fits the bill for that moody blue/green vibe I want and #7 has a perfect red/orange color. #11 has been a personal favorite of mine for over a year and I can’t get enough of all that white space. I’m hoping to dry some leaves and frame them, but if that experiment fails I can also turn to #9. And #1 stands out to me but maybe for our office rather than the bedroom. If you’re on the hunt for artwork too, these are my personal favorites at the moment!
I am curious about the print behind the couch.. what is the name of it and where can you get it? Love looking at all you DIY stuff!
I stopped into Fed Ex and looked at their paper. I was underwhelmed. Can you suggest one, more white than cream and also what you use for prints with color? Thank you. It took me weeks to choose frames, and now paper is stalling me. They also said it’s way cheaper to order online than in store. Thanks
Did you have a chance to look through their pamphlet of papers? FedEx has quite a few smooth, heavyweight papers in both white and cream. I’ve used them for both color and black and white printing. If you’re rather looking for textured paper, I’d recommend a local print shop that carries specialty papers like that.
I saw some resume paper that was thicker than most. Might that be what you are talking about? 🤞
Danica, this is awesome! I love the artwork and the tip about FedEx printing options. Sounds like a winner all the way around. Wow, you have great ideas! As an aside, I also have the Little Critter micro sprayer. Used it 18 months ago to spray a bathroom cabinet. SMOOTH finish. Used Benjamin Moore Advance paint and not a single scuff or chip. Love the sprayer and the paint. If I ever have a big job, I’ll go with your other pic. Looking forward to seeing how your room turns out.
Thank you thank you! I’m so glad you like the sprayer! It’s the most convenient little thing when you have a small project like that.
