There’s a little bit of an art to making the bed. Of course we know the basics – sheets, comforter, and 2 pillows at the head of the bed. But how do you style it from there? The key to styling a bed and creating a cozy feel is all in the pillows. It’s all about mixing patterns, textures, sizes, and most importantly shapes. So I’m going to show you 4 looks and 4 different ways to style your bed pillows to create a look that feels right for your home.
LOOK #1
Create a layered look with three euro shams in the back, two standard shams in front, and a patterned throw pillow in front in a coordinating color.

A simple style that’s easy to recreate. Place two standard shams in the back, two slightly smaller accent pillows in front of the shams, and one throw pillow in front. Be sure to make sure the sizing of each pillow is proportionate to the one behind it.

For the third look, keep your pillows and shams flat on the bed. Add two patterned throw pillows and a round accent pillow in the front. Simple but unique and inviting.
Pair your standard shams with three throw pillows in the color of your choice. Add a little pattern with an oversized lumbar pillow in the front.
Key tips – be sure to include a variety of shapes, patterns and textures. Mix rectangle pillows with square or round pillows. Mix linen shams with velvet or woven wool throw pillows. And blend solids with patterns to create visual interest.
