The candles in this post were gifted.
You know when you walk into a room with an aroma that instantly transports you to a fond memory? Sometimes it’s the fishy smell by the river that brings me back to my trips to the fish market in Seattle or the citronella scents that remind me of my friend’s childhood home. Yesterday I lit a candle from Haven Candle Co and was instantly transported to Christmas day. Scent is such a powerful thing!
Chris and I are both picky when it comes to candles and when we tried Haven’s candles for the first time…HOLY CRAP…they’re officially our new favorite candle company! Haven candles quite literally fill our entire house with their enchanting scents.
I was lucky enough to meet and become friends with the owners of this local company several years back and they’re such kind and gifted human beings. Brittany started pouring candles in 2019 and she has since become a scent magician. Mixing a vast variety of phthalate-free fragrances to create lead free, dye free, and 100% natural soy wax candles.
If you have someone in your life that loves a good candle and appreciates supporting small businesses, let’s break down a few of my favorites scents from Haven Candle Co that I’ve been burning this past month.
Flame + Ember – It’s like a sweetened fireplace…really! Picture eating dessert next to a cozy fire and that’s what this heavily candle smells like! Great for outdoor enthusiasts.
Silent Night – The branding alone is enough for me to buy it! I’m such a sucker for quality brand design, but the warm and sweet scent makes it perfect on every level.
Advent – This candle is exactly what I picture Christmas morning smelling like! And the faint crackle from the wood wick adds that element of cozy. Perfect to gift early in the month so you can count down to Christmas with the advent calendar sticker!
Tobacco + Bergamot – Our absolute favorite scent of ALL the candles we’ve ever had! Brittney describes it as crisp, clean, and masculine and that’s exactly what it is! I’d be happy to give or receive this candle all year round!
To prolong the life of your candle and to ensure you can enjoy every last bit of it, Brittney shared a few tips that I found so helpful –
CANDLE BURNING TIPS
# ONE
“Soy wax will remember the point you burned it to last! To maximize your new candle, burn it until the wax pool reaches the walls of the jar–but no more than 4 hours– to enjoy the candle for as long as possible.”
# TWO
“Wood wicks have a low flame and may self-extinguish if the wick is too long because the wax cannot capillary up the wick and sustain the flame! If you light your candle and it burns out, that probably means it’s time to trim your wick. You can use normal scissors or wick trimmers to keep your wick 3/16″ long.”
And a friendly PSA: Greenery next to a candle is pretty for a photo but please keep your candles away from dried stems to avoid a fire hazard. Safety first! 🙂
I love to reuse candle jars once I’ve finished burning them and these are the perfect size to hold pencils, q-tips, or even a secret stash of candy. I got crafty with mine and used Plaster of Paris, a coat of paint, and dirt to give it a weathered pottery look.
